Most insurance companies like the Insurance corporation of British Columbia, ICBC, are hesitant to assist injury claimants involved in car accidents to make formal notification by way of an online form. ICBC supports claimants reporting a car accident which involves no injury online but does not appear to aid an injury claimant to formally report online. Be aware however that the statements made online to assist ICBC can be used later against you if a lawsuit has to be started, even if the statement only relates to the accident and damage to the vehicles.
Important to know that there is nothing in the ICBC regulations that requires a claimant to give a signed statement to ICBC but must cooperate and provide a written report of the circumstances and consequences of the accident. Best to have a lawyer help notify ICBC if the injury requires treatment or if fault for the car accident is in issue.
Even though ICBC does not provide an online avenue for reporting these claims in my view most first rate personal injury law firms will help you to report your injury online. Write down the details of the accident as soon as possible for the lawyer and expect that the lawyer, once hired, will ensure that the claims are submitting to ICBC in the proper form, and on time.
