I have been a Personal Injury Lawyer in British Columbia since 1995 and am witness to the profound lack of legal knowledge in our community respecting basic civil rights in cases of personal injury. Every legitimate personal injury claimant deserves proper legal advice if they’ve been hurt in BC. However, with the creation of the Insurance Corporation of British Columbia, ICBC, and the sophistication of the way we use and insure our vehicles, British Colombians are becoming disconnected with the legal concepts that have traditionally formed the basis for personal injury protection in the use of automobiles. As a result, injury claimants are left to advocate for themselves with no legal aid funding as ICBC and other insurance companies make huge profits. At Hurtbc.com we provide personal injury resources for the general public to level the playing field.
Ignolegitis is a term naturally derived from discussing the general lack of legal understanding and can be defined as the inflammation of an individuals lack of legal knowledge or a state characterized by inflammation of the lack of legal training and experience. Lat. ignorantia, ignorance + -itis, inflammation. The maxim “ignorance of the law is no excuse” is not a rule of law that determines the outcome of every case of Ignolegitis in British Columbia, however injury claimants will be left with no financial compensation for a personal injury if these symptoms are left untreated.
In using the term Ignolegitis I am of course poking fun at a somewhat serious issue because in British Columbia we are also experiencing a conglomeration of public and private personal information data banks coming together through the use of modern technologies devoid of any guiding legal principles. Face recognition is potentially being introduced, stemming from ICBC, and real time video link-ups to personal data may not be that far away for our citizens. The general public does not have the knowledge base to respond to these changes and this creates a disregard for the respect and dignity of the human person. Our personal autonomy is truly being tested.
What are the symptoms of Ignolegitis in the face of the conglomeration of our personal information on shared government data banks? ICBC has no legal obligation to explain your legal rights so start by watching my short video and check hurtbc.com to begin understanding your personal injury rights.
