A soft tissue injury occurs when there is damage to the muscles, tendons and ligaments. An acute soft tissue injury is caused by the trauma such as from a motor vehicle accident. It can vary in type and severity and it results in pain, discomfort, soreness, stiffness, swelling and bruising. It is not uncommon for individuals to develop symptoms in the days following the accident. The majority of individuals fully recover from a soft tissue injury within a matter of weeks or months, however, some individuals do not and they face a life in chronic pain as a result of the accident.
